ATG8A/F interacting protein containing a WxxL LIR motif at the C terminus which is essential for interaction with ATG8. Stress (abiotic or biotic) results in the formation of ATG8- and ATI3-labeled punctate structures, likely reflecting increased formation of ATG8-labeled phagophores or autophagosomes. ATI3 proteins probably act as selective autophagy receptors that target specific cellular components during the plant stress response. ATI3 proteins are delivered to the vacuole under ER stress in an autophagy-dependent manner.
