Encodes an enzyme that decomposes D-cysteine into pyruvate, H2S, and NH3. Only D-cysteine but not L-cysteine was converted by D-CDes to pyruvate, H2S, and NH3. There is conflicting evidence on its 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase activity. Involved in regulating ethylene levels. DCD enhances plant cadmium tolerance by promoting hydrogen sulfide production.
